Magen David of Madison (MDM) is a prominent synagogue located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, serving as a spiritual home to the Syrian Jewish community of Aleppo. Proudly following the sacred traditions of Arom Soba, MDM blends deep-rooted heritage with a vibrant, growing congregation.
Founded during the height of the 2020 pandemic, MDM began humbly, with dedicated members gathering for prayer in a driveway. United by emunah and driven by unwavering commitment, those early gatherings soon evolved. Just a few years later, MDM moved into a beautiful synagogue on the corner of East 24th Street and Avenue P. From day one, the sanctuary was filled with over 200 congregants, and has only continued to grow.
Today, MDM is led by the esteemed Rabbi Avraham Hayoun, a distinguished spiritual leader also serving at Yeshiva of Flatbush. Rabbi Hayoun’s guidance, warmth, and scholarship have played a vital role in shaping MDM into one of Brooklyn’s most respected and welcoming synagogues. His leadership fosters a strong sense of community, continuity, and Torah-centered living for all ages.
As MDM continues to flourish, its vision has expanded. In response to the overwhelming growth and enthusiasm of its members, MDM recently acquired a nearby property, laying the foundation for a new, permanent spiritual home to serve generations to come.
At MDM, we are more than just a place of prayer. We are a community, a family, and a beacon of tradition and connection in Jewish life.
